Constitution has given Right to Education to each child. Yes , great efforts in the way of universalization of education . But Education is not a physical thing which can be delivered by a postman . It is a value . It is a way of living .
There are many illiterate parents . They don’t know about these laws . But they want to educate their children . So it is advisable that there should be conferences , seminars to create awareness for this.
There are some poor and less educated parents . They send their children to convent or English medium schools . Some time their children do not perform well in studies . And teachers blame to their parents’ for their less progress . Hereby I want to share a story . This story is a real story . I witnessed its occurrence. This story has inspired to me and my fellow teachers .
There was a student named Sujit . Sujit’s parents were less educated . His father couldn’t understand Math or English . But every night , after his daily routine work , he used check Sujit’s note book . He couldn’t read English . Then what he was checking in his notebooks. Sujit used to say ”My father use to count Right or Wrong signs . After counting Rights and Wrongs , he used to tell me ‘Good ‘ or ‘Bad’ . His two words inspired me a lot .” Sujit shared with me that how his mother taught him to behave with elders . He used say ” My mother is illiterate , but she has given strength of character . She taught me to consider all girls as my sister . ”
What Sujit’s father did for him , all illiterate parents can do for their children . It our moral duty to guide parents what they can do . But I experience , instead of guiding them , we ask them to remove their children from school . Truly saying when a student fails, a teacher fails. Failure of students is the failure of teachers’ efforts .
Parents are advised to attend parents meetings, seminars , workshops for better parenting.
