Be available to your kids, to make them feel you belong to them

What should parents do when they are on vacation with their kids?

Dear parents, spend time with your kids, enjoy being with them. Here, I want to talk about what you should do on vacation. The first thing which I always recommend is to please have your kids learn multiplication tables by heart and read books. There are several ways to teach them tables, but I recommend having your kids learn them by heart without using any tricks because different formulae and times tables should be on the tip of their tongues.

Don’t have your kids depend on any tutor. Primary education is basic education, and parents should be personally responsible for it. Working parents should not use their jobs and their busy schedules as an excuse. For who are your kids learning? All great scientists and artists received their primary or basic education by their parents. The present educational system involves one classroom and one teacher for all students, but it is not actually appropriate. Because different children have different interests and different appetites for learning. Their grasping speed is also not the same, so how can various little tots adapt to a specific group learning?

I recommend that parents spare some time to teach basic maths and language skills to their children.

Parents should also create a positive and happy atmosphere at home.

Don’t discuss anything which has a negative or sad connotation to it in front of your children, because it has an adverse impact on them. Good and natural growth takes place in a happy environment. Keep watching or reading something inspirational. There are so many inspirational audios, videos and books. Don’t bring any external influence or your personal problems into school activities, let your child learn like a normal student. Never bring your high-profile influences inside the school, because they are of no use and only hinder the process of natural learning.

Now, I want to share a few quotes by Rabindranath Tagore from Gitanjali:

“When I bring to you coloured toys, my child, I understand why there is such a play of colours on clouds, on water, and why flowers are painted in tints… when I give coloured toys to you, my child. When I sing to make you dance, I truly know why there is music in leaves, and why waves send their chorus of voices to the heart of the listening earth… when I sing to make you dance. When I bring sweet things to your greedy hands, I know why there is honey in the cup of the flowers and why fruits are secretly filled with sweet juice… when I bring sweet things to your greedy hands. When I kiss your face to make you smile, my darling, I surely understand what pleasure comes down from the sky in the morning light, and what delight the summer breeze brings to my body… when I kiss you to make you smile.”

So, dear readers, to smile and spread happiness we don’t need to spend any money.

Children don’t need costly toys to enjoy themselves; they can have fun playing with a spoon, or emptying matchboxes, or playing with dough. A toy that they can break and dash on the ground is better than costly gadgets which they need to handle carefully because in that carefulness they lose the joy of playing. Let your child throw water or soil at you. Let them shout at you for the mistakes you make on purpose. Be as humble and pure as they are. Be available to your kids.

“Parents are the ultimate role models for children. Every word, every movement, and action affects. No other person or outside force has a greater influence on a child than a parent.”

– Bob Keeshan

“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.” -Hodding Carter
