Introduction – The Mahabharatha

The Kedarnath people know, the legend most don’t.

Once, in the ancient land of India, the world was witnessing an epic war that would forever change its course of history. This was the great Kurukshetra War, a cataclysmic clash between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, two factions of the Kuru dynasty, fighting for the throne of Hastinapura. The Pandavas, led by Yudhishthira, were righteous and virtuous, while the Kauravas, led by Duryodhana, were engulfed in greed, pride, and envy.

As the war raged on, the battlefield became a canvas of bloodshed and chaos. The valor of the Pandavas eventually prevailed, but the victory came at a heavy cost. The brothers lost countless loved ones in the brutal conflict, including their own sons, friends, and relatives. The weight of the deaths they had caused, the devastation they had witnessed, and the sins they believed they had committed in the name of righteousness weighed heavily on the Pandavas’ hearts.

In the aftermath of the war, Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava, felt burdened with remorse and guilt. Despite their victory, he couldn’t find solace in the throne he now rightfully occupied. The memories of the brutal battle haunted him, and he felt responsible for the immense loss of life and the destruction of families.

In this state of profound anguish, Yudhishthira sought the counsel of the wise sages and rishis. They advised him that only Lord Shiva, the supreme deity and the Lord of Destruction, could absolve him of his sins and grant him peace. The Pandavas decided to embark on a pilgrimage to find Lord Shiva and seek his blessings for redemption.

Their quest took them deep into the majestic Himalayas, a land of serene beauty and awe-inspiring divinity. Guided by the sages, the Pandavas journeyed through dense forests, crossed treacherous rivers, and braved challenging terrains. Along the way, they encountered numerous holy sites and met sages who blessed them on their sacred journey. Thus, the foundation journey of Kedarnath had begun and nobody knew!

Lord Shiva and The Pandavas.

One day, as the Pandavas continued their arduous trek, they saw a magnificent bull grazing in a meadow. This bull was no ordinary bull; it was Nandi, the sacred vehicle and beloved devotee of Lord Shiva. The sight of Nandi filled them with hope and excitement, as they believed Lord Shiva must be nearby.

Driven by their deep desire to meet the Lord, the Pandavas followed the bull as it wandered through the vast expanse of the Himalayas. But to their surprise, the bull seemed to elude them, skillfully disappearing amidst the wilderness each time they approached.

Undeterred, the Pandavas persisted in their pursuit of the elusive bull. They knew that finding Lord Shiva was their ultimate purpose, and they would not waver in their determination. The bull led them on a winding path, taking them to breathtaking vistas and hidden gems of nature.

Days turned into weeks, and the pursuit continued relentlessly. The Pandavas faced numerous trials and tribulations during their journey, testing their devotion and dedication. They climbed steep cliffs, crossed perilous gorges, and endured harsh weather conditions, all the while holding firm to their goal of seeking Lord Shiva.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the Pandavas found themselves in a secluded valley. The beauty of the place was unparalleled, and an aura of divinity enveloped the surroundings. It was in this mystical valley that they encountered the bull once more.

With beating hearts and unwavering faith, the Pandavas approached the bull, hoping that this time, they would not lose sight of it. But just as they were about to reach out, the bull suddenly vanished into the ground. Astonished and perplexed, the Pandavas looked around in wonder.

And then, as if by divine intervention, the earth beneath them started to rumble and shake. A brilliant light emanated from the very spot where the bull had disappeared. The earth split open, and a glorious figure emerged from within the depths of the Himalayas. It was none other than Lord Shiva, the Supreme Being, the wielder of destruction and the embodiment of compassion.

As Lord Shiva revealed himself in all his resplendent glory, the Pandavas fell to their knees, humbled and awestruck by the divine presence before them. Lord Shiva smiled upon them with benevolence and welcomed them with open arms.

The Beginning of Kedarnath!

“Rise, O Pandavas,” Lord Shiva said in a voice that echoed through the valley. “I know the burden you carry in your hearts. I have witnessed the turmoil of the Kurukshetra War and the sacrifices you have made for the greater good. Your valor and righteousness have earned my admiration.”

Tears streamed down Yudhishthira’s cheeks as he spoke with reverence, “O Lord, we seek your forgiveness and your divine guidance. The war has left us haunted by the sins we committed to uphold Dharma. We yearn for redemption and a path towards inner peace.”

Lord Shiva placed his divine hand on Yudhishthira’s head and said, “You and your brothers have indeed endured trials of immense magnitude. But know that you fought for justice and righteousness, and sometimes, battles are inevitable in the journey of Dharma. I absolve you of your perceived sins and grant you my blessings.”

The weight on Yudhishthira’s heart seemed to lift as he felt a surge of divine grace flowing through him. The other Pandavas, too, felt a sense of tranquility wash over them, knowing that they had found the divine solace they sought.

As the Pandavas stood in the presence of Lord Shiva, they expressed their profound gratitude and sought to immortalize this sacred moment. They wished to construct a temple at this very spot, where Lord Shiva revealed himself to them as a symbol of redemption and forgiveness.

In response to their request, Lord Shiva granted them the boon they sought. “So be it,” he said, “Let this sacred place be known as Kedarnath, and here shall stand a temple in my honor. Let it be a place of pilgrimage where devotees from all walks of life shall seek my blessings.”

The temple rose like a jewel amidst the majestic Himalayan peaks, a beacon of spirituality and a symbol of hope.

It is only achieved either through stupidity or a complete understanding of a series of most complicated thoughts, and it's in the latter I believe. My writings, hopefully, will look upon it while all you have to do is to interpret them in the way you understand and conclude the same in multiple interpretations blended into it. That's what's most closest to "how things should be simple." Do visit the writings, enjoy them and most important, provide a feedback!! You can mail me at sathvyofficial@gmail.com Thank you!!
