Since the beginning of time, musicians have used sound and it as a means of expressing themselves and making their voices heard, whether it be to convey a political message, a specific emotion, or just pure joy.

Music and art are fundamental human activities. Art and humanity cannot exist apart from one another. We have an overwhelming desire to create, no matter how big or small. Whether making or enjoying sound, interaction with it is inevitable.

It has always been important to people, whether it’s for the pleasure of listening, the emotional response, performing, or creating. This applies equally to contemporary concert music and classical. Our society greatly benefits from both songs; We are all aware, however, that this music’s underappreciation is a problem in this field. It is my duty as an artist and musician to teach others how to appreciate the art I love so much.

It goes without saying that classical or concert music is not very much a part of mainstream American culture. There are still stigmas that contribute to this, as well as the government’s practices over the past two decades (declining music education in local schools, resisting increased NEA funding, and reducing the national visibility of the arts; We sincerely hope that the Obama administration will be able to begin reversing these patterns. It’s possible that many people still hold the belief that classical music is only for the wealthy, elderly, and educated.

Because they believe they must act and dress a certain way to enter a concert or recital hall, some people may find it awkward to attend classical music events. Even more, some artists’ pretentiousness and elitism is amplified by shows on television, advertisements, plays, books, and even by influential people, separating musicians from mainstream society. Like nearly every stereotype, some of this is true, but not all of it. The majority of people decide that concert music is not “for them” because they believe it has no significance or relevance to their lives.

The previous administration’s lack of interest in promoting and supporting the arts, whether through funding for arts organizations or arts education, adds to this problem. Now, we have evidence of the commitment of the current government, which gives us hope; However, the most important thing for American society to understand is that classical and concert music can be enjoyed by anyone.
