The Goal of Education: 1 Goal For Successful Life

Teachers

The Goal of Education: To make you, for what, you are born.

The goal of education is not to make a man of papers (formal degrees); but a man of success.

What do you mean by success?  The definition of success for different people is different. For a hungry person, getting a loaf of bread is a success. For a disabled, the ability to move or overcoming to disability can be a success.

For a troubling person, ‘troubling to others’ can be a success. Success has different meaning to different person.

Have you ever asked your kids, why they go to school?  Is going to school is education?

goal of education

To understand the goal of education, first we should understand, what is education?

Shakespeare had quoted:

“Man learnt to fly in the sky like bird,

Swim in water like fish,

But;

Could not learn, to live on Earth,

Like human.”

“Education is not an agency of employment.”…..Rajiv Gandhi

Swami Vivekanand’s   Definition of Education:

Vivekananda believed education is the manifestation of perfection already in men. He did not think it a pity that the existing system of education did not enable a person to stand on his own feet, nor did it teach him self-confidence and self-respect. … To him education was an assimilation of noble ideas. Is this goal of Education?

What do you want to derive from education?

What do you want to derive from education? Health, No. Wealth, No. Fame, No, then what we want to derive from Education? It’s character.

A man of character can be one goal of education.

‘Character’: Do we build ‘A man of character ‘in our school’s four walls?

Does the education system of the world, build humans? Then what is the rate of production of human beings? I am not talking about the rate of population growth. If yes then why wars are there on this planet?

If we, humans can produce humans, then why there is corruption, pollution and inequality?

Inequality, in the name of religion, language, country and community.

Sometimes, we feel animals are better than humans.

Do we teach stress management? Do we teach international brotherhood?

We need to develop life skills. But life skills or different educational terms are introduced, but they remain only on paper.

The goal of education is to develop adaptation ability. Stress management and productivity can be other goals of education. But these goals cannot be achieved through written exams.

While teaching if a teacher will say 10 times  ‘ this question is important, then you tell me which goal of education teacher is achieving after teaching that question?

In this way we cannot develop great personalities (Humans) but animals of a zoo.

So, while teaching we should not say that this question is important from an examination point of view, but we should say this skill or value, we can apply in our day-to-day life. We can apply this skill to earn two ends meal or to solve real-life problems.

But we should teach them, in which real-life situation, we can apply that principle or values.

I mean, teachers should teach, how to apply knowledge to real-life situations.

In short, the real goal of education is to develop a man of integrity.
